Godwin Pumps® Combats Fuel Prices With Automated Controls For Pumpsets
Godwin Pumps, worldwide manufacturer and supplier of the Dri-Prime® automatic self-priming pump, features a range of automatic pump and equipment controls.
Known worldwide for introducing the Dri-Prime automatic dri-priming pump in the United States, Godwin Pumps remains at the technological forefront by developing automatic controls for its diesel and electric-driven pumpsets.
The PrimeGuard™ Controller is available on all Godwin Dri-Prime pump models with Tier III electronic diesel engines and optional on non-electronic diesel engines. The PrimeGuard Controller is a fully programmable control system that allows users to vary pump and diesel-engine speed based on input from level, flow, pressure transducers or standard floats, allowing your Dri-Prime pump to start and stop automatically without an operator. The PrimeGuard has the unique ability to set parameters and monitor the pumping system, thereby reducing labor costs associated with manning pump-watches. In addition, it can be programmed to provide maintenance reminders and operational warning alarms. For extended temporary or permanent standby applications, the PrimeGuard can be programmed to exercise the diesel-engine.
Godwin also offers Godwin Variable Frequency Drives (Godwin VFDs) which automatically vary electric motor speed to maintain wet-well level and discharge pressure. These variable speed controls, optimize system performance and increase efficiency and mechanical reliability by automatically starting and stopping using switches, transducers and SCADA remote signals and protecting against over current and temperature, short circuit, under voltage and phase loss. The Godwin VFD monitors motor conditions such as speed, torque, voltage, current and power, and mitigates the effects of waterhammer from startup and shutdown of pumpsets.
The Godwin PrimeGuard Controller and Godwin VFDs reduce wear and maintenance costs and increase pump longevity through smoother starts and stops. They also provide power savings by enabling the pump and motor speed to vary and match system demands, thereby using only the energy required.
Primarily used in applications including drinking water distribution systems, booster pump applications, pumping into sanitary force mains and pump applications that require a pump to match a pressure, level or flow condition, Godwin automatic pump controls regulate pump and engine speed to maintain a process variable, much like a Godwin VFD on an electric motor drive pump.
"We use our equipment, so we have benefitted from our first-hand knowledge and experience," said Godwin President, John Michael Paz. "The development and evolution of these controls has helped us proactively manage increasing fuel and/or power costs, while also prolonging the life of our equipment. We are pleased to extend these same benefits to our customers."
