AWWA Webcast To Offer Insight Into Disinfection Byproduct Regulations

On Wednesday, November 10, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) will host the "Tools & Technologies for Meeting Stage 2 DBP Regulations" webcast.

The Stage 2 Disinfectant Byproduct (DBP) Rule, which comes into effect for large systems serving over 100,000 people in April 2012 and all remaining systems by October 2013, sets more stringent maximum contaminant levels (MCL) for DBPs. Some utilities may be required to improve DBP removal processes to achieve compliance.

The webcast will present several approaches to control DBPs, and will detail how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling techniques can be used to optimize chlorination and reduce DBP formation. Cost effective applications using granular activated carbon (GAC) and UV treatment to control DBP levels will also be presented.

Webcast presenters include:

  • Alan Roberson, Director of Security & Regulatory Affairs, AWWA, Washington, DC
  • Paul Swaim, PE, Vice President, Global Technology Leader for Water Treatment, CH2MHill, Englewood, CO
  • Michael Price, Northern California Water Practice Leader, MWH Global, Walnut Creek, CA
