The PAX Water Mixer: Easy, Flexible & Affordable Water Quality Management
PAX Water's award winning mixing system, based on PAX patented impeller technology, cost effectively manages drinking water quality in storage tanks and reservoirs.
The PAX Water Mixer is an active type submersible mixing system. The mixer easily installs in less than three hours without taking the reservoir out of service, and mixes on-demand to rapidly eliminate stratification, uniformly distribute disinfectants and prevent conditions favorable to nitrification. In addition, the need for on-site chemical addition may be significantly reduced, and when such practices are required, dispersion times can be minimized.
All materials entering the water comply with NSF/ANSI Standard 61 requirements for materials in contact with drinking water. All electrical connections are certified to UL standards for maximum safety.
The tank illustration depicts a typical installation and the strong axial jet of fluid the patented impeller generates. This stream sets up a low-friction, energy efficient and stable flow structure throughout the entire volume of the body of water, resulting in completely mixed conditions.

Benefits & Impact
Water Quality Benefits: Mixing yields superior water quality
- Virtual elimination of thermal stratification, stagnation and short-circuiting.
- Maintenance of uniform disinfectant concentration and accelerated mixing of manually added chemicals.
- Longer lasting residuals after elimination of warm upper layers.
- Completely mixed conditions minimize the effective water "age" and reduce the potential formation of disinfectant byproducts.
- Mixed tanks yield more consistent water quality and ‘consume' less chlorine.
- Minimize risk of nitrification associated with chlorine/ chloramine conversions.
Operational Benefits – Greatest Operator and System Flexibility
- Easiest mixing system to install.
- Does not impede tank maintenance, easily movable.
- Active mixing produces rapid results when operators need them.
- Greatly reduces labor burden and energy cost of using pumping operations to manage water quality instead of deep cycling tanks to improve turnover and circulation.
- Prevent excessive tank draw-down that compromises availability of water to fight fires and for other emergency needs.
Financial Impact – Estimated Average Payback of Under 3 Years
- The PAX Water mixer minimizes pump energy costs associated with deep cycling, the practice of manipulating tank levels and pumping operations in the distribution system to improve turnover and circulation of storage tanks.
- Stabilizing tank water quality can greatly reduce frequency and cost of water quality sampling, testing & reporting requirements.
- Greatly reduced need for "breakpoint" or emergency chlorination saves both labor and chemical costs.
- Shutdown and sterilization costs can be avoided, savings on labor and chemical costs, as well as costs to purchase, treat, and distribute water that must also then be dechlorinated for proper disposal.
- Reduced flushing activities saves on field labor and water costs, and reduces lost revenue.
